Lifetime Learning Tax Credit

As a Walden University student, you may be eligible for the Lifetime Learning Credit under the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. The Lifetime Learning Credit is a tax credit available to students who pay qualified tuition and fees in a given year and take courses. Students do not have to be pursuing a degree. The amount of the credit is subtracted directly from the individual's tax liability, unlike a tax deduction, which reduces taxable income.

Under the provisions of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997, Walden University is required to properly complete and submit Form 1098-T Tuition Payments Statement to the Internal Revenue Service with a copy also provided to the student. The 1098-T forms are mailed to students each year at the end of January and should be forwarded to the student's tax advisor.

Please note that Walden University cannot provide tax advice. Students should contact their tax advisor or the IRS for questions about the Lifetime Learning Credit. The IRS can be contacted at 800-829-1040 or at www.irs.ustreas.gov.
