Register For the Session

Location and Venue
Walden University will be hosting a 6–day M.S. MHC residency in Minneapolis, MN. During this 6-day residency, students will participate in academic sessions, have access to faculty and staff members for advising sessions, and have an opportunity to interact with other M.S. MHC students from Walden University for professional and academic networking.

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Metropolitan Area is one of the top 20 largest urban areas in the United States and is known for the Mall of America, its arts community, award-winning efforts toward sustainability, and its city parks. It is a great fall travel location as the weather is generally mild; the average temperatures for October historically are in the 40's (F) and average highs around 58 degrees (F). The residency location will give you quick access to the city as the hotel is proximate to downtown Minneapolis and accessible by multiple modes of public transportation. Read more about the metro area at http://www.meetminneapolis.org/.

Residency 1
Students attending Residency 1 will participate in workshops that focus on multicultural competencies, foundations of mental health counseling (i.e. orientation to the profession, licensure, professional identity, etc.), and practicum and internship preparations.  In addition, students will engage in group activities and take part in skill development and taping.  Group advising sessions are offered at Residency 1, as well as individual advising time, as needed.  Students must bring a recordable mini-DVD disk (not a recording device) to this session.

Travel
Students flying to this residency will want to fly into the Minneapolis/St.Paul  International Airport (MSP).  The residency will be located approximately 10 miles from the airport.  Students should make flight arrangements only after receiving a Confirmation E-mail from the Residencies Team.

Accommodations
Walden University has reserved a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Metrodome at a rate of $99/night. Information about how to make a reservation will be provided to registered students in the Confirmation Email. Take advantage of the rooms for their convenience to academic sessions.  With the extra time you’ll have in the morning, you will be able to make the most of your experience at the residency--socialize and network to establish a support system of faculty, staff, and fellow students.  As part of the room block, you'll also enjoy high-speed Internet access in your sleeping room at no additional cost.

Students must make room reservations prior to Friday, September 14, 2007. Rooms are available to students on a first-come/first-serve basis; act fast to reserve your room as the hotel may reach capacity prior to the deadline. Once the room block is full, the hotel reserves the right to increase the room rates prior to the room block deadline.
