Holds

I checked my PSP and it said I had a Bursar Hold – what is that?

A Bursar Hold is placed on a student’s account when a past due balance remains on the account. When a Bursar Hold is placed on a student account, students may not:

  • Register for upcoming courses or receive transcripts

Please refer to your bill on your PSP finance Tab for details. You may call 1-800-WALDEN, option 1 or email us at bursar@waldenu.edu to have this resolved.

Refunds

When can I expect my refund to arrive?

Refunds are released 14 calendar days after your loan disbursement posts to your Walden account. You can find your financial aid disbursement date on the email sent by the Financial Aid Office, or by going to www.getloanstatus.com.

Why do Students receive refunds?

Walden University will release a refund if a credit remains on the account after a payment, financial aid disbursement, or university credit has been applied. We are required by law to automatically send any credit balance to students via the selected refund option.

What refund options are available, and how would I set them up?

The default option for receiving a refund is by paper check to the address listed on the student’s file. We prefer students elect our debit card or direct deposit options.

How Do I set up the Direct Deposit Option ?

  1. Select the Finances tab
  2. Select “View your account information”
  3. Select the “Refund Disbursement” tab
  4. Scroll down an and select either “Checking Account” or “Savings Account”
  5. After filling in account information agree to terms and hit save
  6. Last step: Check to see that your bank account profile populates under the “My Profile” tab

How Do I set up the Debit Card Option ?

  1. Select the Finances tab
  2. Select “View your account information”
  3. Select the “Refund Disbursement” tab
  4. Select the Debit Card option
  5. Accept terms and enter information into required fields
  6. Hit save.

Additional FAQs on the Debit Card are located here:https://stg.bosebill.salliemae.com/NetPay
/Templates/FAQ_cardholder--Revision%2001102007_1.htm#Q2

*Please allow seven-ten business days for processing

**Direct Deposit and the Debit Card does not speed up the processing time of student refunds. They do, however speed up the transit time.

I know that my refund is coming, but I need my books now. What can I do?

Students who need assistance with the cost of their books may request a book loan.  Students may begin to submit requests for a book loan 30 days prior to the start of their upcoming term.  You are eligible for a book loan if you are currently enrolled, and have approved financial aid for an upcoming term.  There is a $300.00 book loan maximum per term.  Your book loan will be applied to your student account, and will be deducted from your upcoming financial aid disbursement.  Book loan requests received after your financial aid has posted to your student account will not be processed, as our office would be actively working to process your loan proceeds.

Please complete the form below and read and accept the terms and conditions below to be considered.

I would rather not receive a refund. What should I do?

Students do have the option of requesting that their additional funds remain on their student accounts in the form of a credit. Students may request this option by filling out an “ Authorization for Excess Funds to Remain on Account” form, which is located at http://inside.waldenu.edu/c/Student_Faculty/StudentFaculty_12452.htm . Students also have the option of sending their refund check back to the university along with a copy of this form.

Students placed on Bursar Holds should keep timelines in mind when submitting payments.

What about my Discount?

If a student believes he or she should be receiving a discount that has not been applied, the student should contact their Enrollment Advisor. Enrollment Advisors must complete discount eligibility forms and submit them to billing.

Financial Aid

I would like to sign up for Financial Aid. How would I do this?

A listing on the Financial Aid Process, including FAFSA registration and other required forms are available at http://inside.waldenu.edu/c/Student_Faculty/StudentFaculty_12825.htm.

When do I have to reapply for Financial Aid?

After three loan disbursement periods, student financial aid packages run out. In these cases, a student should immediately fill out their FAFSA and other required documents. Please be advised that Financial Aid is not necessarily guaranteed and that a student should have alternative options available.

What else should I know about Financial Aid?

Student accounts may still be placed on hold.

In many cases, students receiving Financial Aid are still placed on Bursar Hold. Bursar Holds are removed after financial aid is posted to the Walden account. However, a potential Bursar Hold or Financial Suspension can usually be avoided if students do the following:

Students should make sure information is up to date and check their eligibility for aid. Students should make sure they have filled out all necessary paperwork, including the Master Promissory Note, Entrance Interview and Award Acknowledgment form. Not completing all necessary paperwork will delay a student’s disbursements and could lead to a bursar hold.

Remember that schedule changes could affect the status of financial aid. Should a student drop a course, postpone a course, or change their program of study or specialization, financial aid may be affected. Students should contact Financial Aid (800-444-6795) for advisement on how aid may be affected.

Know your Financial Aid limits. Although students may have applied for Financial Aid, they may not be eligible for a full loan package because they have reached the aggregate limit for Federal Aid. The Financial Aid office can provide students with the most up to date information on their current loan(s) and future eligibility (800-444-6795, or finaid@waldenu.edu).
