Walden University Library Walden University Library
Welcome to the Walden University Library Newsletter – our way of keeping you up to date on what's happening in the Walden Library.
We've had a busy spring and summer hiring and bringing in new staff members. Sue Davidsen was hired as Director of Library Services in April. Sue comes from the Library of Michigan where she coordinated the state's digital library and prior to that from the University of Michigan where she taught in the School of Information. Michelle Hajder was hired as Walden's Associate Librarian and as such will be responsible for information literacy efforts at Walden. Michelle comes to us from the Minnesota School of Business. Please contact Michelle if you would like to update your library instructions in your classes or design new library assignments, michelle.hajder@waldenu.edu
Web Site News The Library web pages are being tweaked here and there to update them with new information. Stay tuned for a major web site renovation to come in September! http://www.lib.waldenu.edu/
New Resources Two new full-text resources have been added to the Walden Library: Ovid Lipincott Nursing Journals and the Journal of the American Medical Association. Check them out today! More full text databases will be arriving in January.
So where is the Walden Library anyway? Walden's Library is completely digital and as such has no physical location. The Walden Library Director and Associate Librarian report to the Dean of Student Services for Walden University and are based in Minneapolis where they can keep abreast of program needs and changes. Indiana University still provides certain services on a contractual basis. Walden University contracts with IU for reference and document delivery services.
Trials! But hopefully not tribulations … The library runs free test drives for new database considerations. See our web page to participate and cast your vote.
Setting the Record Straight And now for the bad news. Walden alums do not have access to the library's resources after they graduate. Unfortunately, pricing for databases is based on the number of students served and adding our alums is not yet in the budget. The Library is looking into pricing for a special alumni-use version of the EBSCO Academic Premiere database.
eCampus Library Pages And finally, the library has a community in eCampus (under Student Development) to which you may wish to subscribe. We'll post new trials and resources there as well as other library news.
