KAM Basics

A Guide to the Knowledge Area Modules
What is a KAM? What is its purpose? What are the faculty’s expectations? How do I write a learning agreement? The first place to start is Walden’s bible on KAM writing.

Formatting and Paginating Your KAM
The basic KAM format is less mysterious than you might think, and this new template has been designed to include pagination and table of contents formatting to make formatting simple. If you're curious about the differences between the old and new template, Walden faculty Dr. Trenton Ferro has prepared a helpful guide outlining the changes.

How do You Write a KAM?

Jeff Zuckerman and Jay Wilkerson from the Walden staff presented a PowerPoint show at Summer Session 2004. This modified version contains an easy-to-understand explanation of what a KAM is, how to organize it, brief examples, a suggested outline, and other useful information.

A Plan for Multiple KAM Development

Dr. Roger Powley, a member of the Education Technology faculty, has developed this grid to help several of his students systematically plan and manage their KAM learning experience. The aim is to help you think systematically about your studies and to help you start building the organizational skills you'll need as a researcher.

Sample KAM Pages

Although the formatting is from an earlier edition of APA and should not be used in current KAMs, these sample pages from a fictitious KAM 2 give students a glimpse of an early draft and then improved Breadth, Depth, and Application sections. The overarching theme of this KAM is Research on Love and Its Connection to Social Change in the Helping Professions. Compare the changes that this student made from one draft to the next. Annotation examples are also listed, but take a look at pages 29, 30, and 31 in the KAM Guidebook for more specific requirements for KAM students.
